El Segundo Unified School District:

July 2005, SN05------ v. ESUSD: A2Z represents an elementary school student with Autism, and we are alleging that student has not received FAPE at any time from the school district. Issues include compensatory education and prospective NPS placement. There are also issues involved that are outside the scope of Due Process, including alleged injury to the student. Case settled. Student placed at an NPS including transportation

Outcome: High Functioning Male Elementary School Student. After Parents had privately placed Student at Village Glen, an NPA, a settlement agreement was reached with the District that provided for reimbursement of all out of pocket expenses, continued placement at Village Glen and reimbursement of attorney fees.

Hermosa Beach School District:

July 2005, SN04----- v. HBSD: A2Z negotiated a confidential settlement agreement involving placement for an elementary school student with High Functioning Autism.

Disability: Specific learning disability
Outcome: Male High School Student whose family had been experiencing significant retaliatory harassment by District, including being reported to child protection services (which found no problems in the home) Through a settlement agreement Student was provided appropriate services, restricted the access to Student of certain District employees, an OCR complaint has been filed which is currently under investigation. Attorney’s fees were awarded.

Palos Verdes Unified School District

December 2002, Autistic Student prevailed substantially. The case involved a dispute over appropriate services, including speech and language therapy. The student had apraxia of speech, which was not being addressed by the District. District was ordered to implement additional speech services to address apraxia, and also to reimburse parents for privately obtained assessments.

Torrance

July 3, 2006, N2006060157, Age or grade: 16, Disability: Autism

Outcome: High School Female Student w/
High Functioning Autism privately placed by Parents at Village Glen, an NPS, when she started to experience extreme school anxiety. Parents prevailed at hearing and were awarded reimbursement for tuition, transportation and attorney fees.

2007 Student v. Torrance Unified School District, Case #N2007120020

Middle-school Student, with normal cognitive ability had a severe reading disorder achieved a settlement from the District after 3 days of a due process hearing. Student had participated in all the District offered programs but had not made improvement in his reading ability for the past 6 years. Student received intensive daily NPA reading along w/ significant compensatory education to make up for the District's failure to provide a FAPE.
