🌱Spring Into IEP Season: The Spring Tradition No One Asked For 🌱

“In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” This well-known quote from 1789, by Founding Father Benjamin Franklin has stood the test of time. The modern day, 2026 version? Two Things Are Certain in Spring: IEPs and Taxes (yes, taxes are still due by April 15th – that’s a Wednesday this year).

Whether you’re new to the world of special education and IEPs or not, Spring IEP Season has established quite the reputation for itself. In addition to the regular stressors that come with March – still reeling from the chaotic holiday season, making sure you get the right allergen friendly treats to accompany your student’s Valentines (that you prepared for the whole class of course), or even preparing for the looming threat of Spring and Summer vacation – families and educators are met with burned out students and school staff, outdated data, and full calendars. “Let’s just get this done” becomes the mantra around this time of year. While this fervor can work well for some families, like most things in the world of special education, this “one size fits all” approach does not work for everyone. The pressure that comes with ending the school year can have negative impacts on your student’s IEP. Don’t let those seasonal allergies and the supposed “non-drowsy” antihistamines distract you!

🍀For now, remember IEPs are most effective when the process is collaborative! When you’re prepared, your team is prepared, and your student benefits! Remember, you got this! And if you feel like maybe you don’t, there’s always June — which is not as popular or highly coveted as a Spring IEP. 🍀

*This is the first in a series of blogs to come in the next few weeks, to help you better prepare for the whirlwind that is Spring IEP Season!
